Indian universities see 14% QS ranking increase; highest among G20 nations
After meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on global higher education trends in India, QS president Nunzio Quacquarelli wrote on social media that India had the “highest performance improvement among all G20 nations” days after the QS World University Rankings named India the “most represented” country.
QS rankings originator Quacquarelli announced on LinkedIn a few days ago that he will disclose results from the newest rankings, which were issued on April 10 by subject, starting with the Indian higher education system, over the following several weeks.
An average 14% year-on-year improvement was reported by 69 Indian universities in the QS World University Rankings – by Subject published on April 10.
“India is one of the fastest-growing research centers in the world. He said that its research output increased 54% from 2017 to 2022, making it the world’s fourth-largest producer.
QS founder claimed subject-rankings suggest that India’s new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is resulting in “enhanced performance” of Indian universities.
Over 1500 universities in 96 countries, 55 academic subjects, and five faculty areas were ranked by QS.
In 44 of 55 QS topic rankings, India ranks highly. Computer Science, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Physics, and Business Studies were among the standouts, he said.
The Institutes of Eminence (IoE) placed 47 of 69 Indian universities in the top 100 topic rankings.
He also noted that India currently ranks second in Asia for featured universities, behind China.
Quacquarelli praised all universities, administrations, teachers, and students for these “remarkable” results. He said, “The future of Indian higher education is bright, and it is a privilege to watch this transformation unfold”.
This year, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was the top Indian university for Development Studies at 20th globally. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ahmedabad debuts 22nd for Business and Management Studies.
