UCL leads worldwide education and architecture & built environment rankings.

Education, with the IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, topping the list for 11 years, and Architecture & Built Environment, recognizing The Bartlett’s academic excellence, have both been topped by UCL for two years.

The top 10 UCL subjects are Education (1), Architecture & Built Environment (1), Archaeology (3), Anthropology (4), Pharmacy & Pharmacology (4), Psychology (5), Medicine (6), Biological Sciences (6), Geography (7), and Anatomy & Physiology (8).

UCL is in the top 50 for 43 of 46 subject areas.

Professor Geraint Rees, UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement), said: “These rankings demonstrate UCL’s excellence in many fields. I’m proud to congratulate the IOE and Bartlett on another world-leading ranking. I’m always impressed by UCL’s academic brilliance throughout campus. Our students study from world-leading experts who aim to educate at the greatest level.

Professor Li Wei, Dean and Director of IOE, said: “To be ranked first in the world in these subject rankings for education is very welcome recognition and affirmation of the outstanding performance in all areas of our work by my colleagues, in collaboration with our funders, partners, students, and alumni. Making it 11 years in a row is even more impressive. IOE has made significant contributions to research, policy, and practice around children and families, including teacher education, a critical profession. From leading-edge education research innovation to research and information sharing that links education to linked social areas to subject-specialist teacher education at scale, IOE makes a unique contribution.

Interim Dean of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment Professor Jacqui Glass said: “This wonderful achievement has been made possible by the continuing efforts of an outstanding community of people who come together at The Bartlett. I am pleased to recognize the varied and significant work of our students, educators, researchers, and professional staff in cooperation with peers and collaborators in many nations.

QS compared over 1,500 universities worldwide using five key metrics: academic reputation, research performance based on citations impact, graduate employability, and subject-specific weightings to reflect different research practices.

Later this year, QS World University Rankings will rate universities generally rather than by topic. Our previous rating ranked UCL eighth worldwide.
